| | I'm n the most excellent of moods today! Had fun at work today. The first time in a very long while. Who knew that only working for 2 days out of the week was the answer. On top of that, I had a phenomenal sales day. Leaving work I passed one of my coworkers kneeling next to a sewer grate with a duck running around in circles nearby quacking frantically. Come to find out it was a mother duck who after feeding the kids, decided to take a leisurely walk across the parking lot. Right over the sewer grate. In all, 9 baby met the *ahem* "business" end of our waste drainage pipe.
The security guard that met us outside had already called fire/rescue to no avail (smart guy...). He was also told by animal control that "On Saturday and Sunday, rescue services are reserved for family pets." (AWESOME!) Taking matters into his own hands, he attempted to lift the grating off with a crowbar with no luck. So here we are...now 5 of us standing helplessly around this "crappy" situation. (and the mother duck wouldn't shut up!) So I get to thinking, there's got to be a way to get this grating off of here. So I move to one side and give it a bit of a tug and sure enough, it starts to move. Pleased with myself for the brute strength I unknowingly posses, I lift the grating off and motion for someone to help me figure out how to get something down there to pick them up.
Someone gets the bright idea of a badminton racket and we get to work. We successfully nab 3 ducklings with the racket and return them to the safety of their mother, who apparently was thinking "3 out of 9 ain't bad. I think I'll go now." so she splits. This leaves my supervisor lying face down over the grating in stitches. Here we are trying to save all her kids and she's just like "Eff it! That's life!" So maybe it was everyone's 'good deed of the day' or the animal lover in all of us, but 30 minutes later, we ended up gathering up all the lil guys into a bucket and taking them back to their mother. Feeling good about ourselves, we attempted to move the sewer grate back to it's proper place. Effectively dropping it into the pipe. (nice one, Jeff) They won't come to save a bunch of ducks, but I bet the city of Tampa will be there tomorrow morning to replace it.
So yah. That's all I have for anyone who still reads. Hope your day was as good as mine. |
